WoW: Patch 9.1 - Soul Cinders: Costs for Legendary upgrades adjusted

Update, May 09, 2021: WoW developers have made a small adjustment to the cost of upgrading Legendarys with Soul Cinders in the latest PTR build for Patch 9.1. Upgrading from Rank 4 to Rank 5 will now cost 5,150 Soul Ashes and 500 Soul Cinders, rather than 5,150 Soul Ashes and 400 Soul Cinders. The time it takes to upgrade a legendary item from rank 4 to rank 5 and from rank 5 to rank 6 remains unchanged by this adjustment. We've adjusted the cost below accordingly.

Original Message: When patch 9.1 for WoW (buy now € 14.99 ) Shadowlands comes out, we will be able to upgrade legendary items to ranks 5 and 6. For this we need the new currency Soul Cinders. This mega soul ash is available in Torghast from level 9 as well as in the Maw. The dataminers of Wowhead have now found out how much it costs to upgrade legendary items to the new ranks with itemlevel 250 and 260 and how much Soul Cinders are dropping in Torghast and in the Maw.

As mentioned earlier, you can collect the new currency Soul Cinders in Torghast starting at level 9 as well as in various activities in the Maw. The Mega Soul Cinder drops in Torghast in addition to the normal Soul Cinder in certain amounts. When you complete a higher rank, you will also receive the Soul Ash and Soul Cinders of the rank below:

  • Rank 9: 35 Soul Ash and 60 Soul Cinders.
  • Rank 10: 30 Soul Ashes and 50 Soul Cinders
  • Rank 11: 25 Soul Ash and 40 Soul Cinders
  • Rank 12: 20 Soul Ashes and 30 Soul Cinders

If you want to collect Soul Cinders in the Maw, you can do so via the Tormentors of Tormenthast event, which is new to the game in patch 9.1. There are also Soul Cinders for completing the attacks on the Maw, which happen twice a week. You'll get the following amounts of Mega Soul Cinders in these:

  • 50 Soul Cinders per week for completing the Tormentors event.
  • 100 Soul Ashes per week for completing the attacks (50 Soul Cinders per attack)

WoW Patch 9.1 - This is how long Legendary upgrades to rank 5 and 6 last.

The cost of upgrading legendary items looks like this for all ranks with patch 9.1:

  • Rank 1: 1,250 Soul Ash
  • Rank 2: 2,000 Soul Ash
  • Rank 3: 3,200 Soul Ash
  • Rank 4: 5,150 Soul Ash
  • Rank 5: 5,150 Soul Ash and 400 Soul Cinders
  • Rank 6: 5,150 Soul Ashes and 1,650 Soul Cinders

To upgrade legendary items to rank 6, you need 1,650 Soul Cinders. You can collect 360 Soul Cinders per week in Torghast and 150 Soul Cinders via activities in the Maw. In other words, you will receive a maximum of 510 Soul Cinders per week. This means:

  • Upgrading a Legendary to rank 5 takes one week.
  • Upgrading a Legendary to rank 6 will take four weeks.

Also, you will receive more Soul Cinders in patch 9.1 than in patch 9.0.5, 1,360 Soul Cinders instead of 1,140 Soul Cinders. Therefore, in patch 9.1, you will be able to upgrade your Legendary items to rank 4 in 3.8 weeks (up from 4.5 weeks).
